Oil Questions

Hi

Getting new TC w 40K miles.  I have no idea about oil used in the car previously.  What oil would you recommend, natural or synthetic?  Weight? Any issues from changing from (presumably) natural to synthetic?

Thank you!

Dale,
I have been a Castrol guy since the early 90's but have recently switched over to Quaker State 5w-30 "Full Synthetic" for my 88 TC. It has been tested to provide extremely high wear protection as well as thermal breakdown resistance, which is a good thing in turbos. You can read about the independent testing of multiple different oils here, https://540ratblog.wordpress.com/2013/06...t-ranking/ , find your favorite and see how it compares, but for $22 at Wal-Mart, I 'm going with the Quaker State in all of my vehicles. Also, use a good oil filter such as a Motorcraft, Purolator, or a WIX. There have been some concerns in the past of synthetic maybe leaking more in a vehicle due to its more slippery nature, but I have switched over to synthetic in my old vehicles as well and have seen no increase in leaks.

I have been running Mobil 1 in all our cars since it came out circa 1978. Zero issues with oil leaks / oil seal leaks / zero engine issues ever in any of the cars.

Kuch, thanks!  BTW we have similar tastes in cars.  I have a '63 Galaxie (406 G code) and would love to have a Starliner...

nice a 406 63! is it a boxtop? Always like the boxtop 63's and the big early 60's Galaxies in general.

10w30 and nothing lower. These motors were made in a time when tolerances were looser then they are today. Putting 5w, or 0w will burn faster then the money that your spending on it.
