Oil out of exhaust scroll? Engine on stand

So I pulled the motor.. not so soon after the rebuild (metal in oil filter). The metal I thing comes from one main bearing being a little offset (needs a line hone, no copper came through though... just polished bearing from parting line to parting line) and the brand new cam bearings. The top side of the cam bearings look worn in now - I don't know how normal this is for new bearings.

I had the motor laid over 45degrees so I could undo the mains and get the crank out. Initially, I wasn't going to pull the head but since I've decided on the line hone, everything came off the block. Intake and exhast are still on the head. Tonight, when I set it back upright, a pool of oil came out of the exhaust elbow. This is a fresh rebuild T3. Considering the turbo was the low point while it was tilted, is it normal for the exhaust side to bleed oil the way it did?

To answer my own question, I fired off an email to Charlie at Evergreen, who rebuilt the turbo for me. He didn't call it a problem and told me it's likely oil just seeping was the oil seal from where I had the engine laid over on the stand. Given who it's coming from, I'm ok with that.

Turbo has operated fine, otherwise.. TC/SVO T3 rebuild and operating with the TC intercooler. I've seen it bounce to 22psi but I'm trying to keep it between 18-20.

Yeah that makes sense. There's isn't a real 'gasket' on the turbine side. The seal is basically a metal ring so if oil is pooled in the center section it's going to seep out somewhat.

Sigh ... why can't I just drive this car?

Anyone can confirm symptoms of a leaking exhaust side oil seal?

I finished it and started it up. Got the expected oil cloud from the earlier oil. Everything was good until 10-15mins in she started blowing smoke. It was well past warmed up at this point. Shut down, checked intercooler - dry, #1 plug - looked good. Bolted it back together after about 15mins and cranked it up - no smoke. Let it idle for maybe 10mins while I watched it and it started to puff a bit. Took it up the road and it turned into a mosquito killer before I even got up to speed.

If I gotta pull the turbo off... sigh, oh well.. gotta pull the trans again anyway.. since the Spec Stage3+ really is the cause of my 5th gear vibration.

Replying to my own question again.. at least to debunk. I didn't think there was that much oil that got sprayed though the exhaust, especially since I sopped what I could out of the elbow, but it did take some driving to get it to all burn out.

Charlie at Evergreen Turbo is the man - putting up with all my questions.
