Oh the dreaded fog on the windshield!

It just started getting cold in the mornings here in beautiful Charlotte, NC... So naturally I turn up the temp on the Electronic Heat/AC, and low and behold, a fog starts appearing on windshield right above the defroster vent on the passenger side. Plus I have "smoke" coming from the vents, and the dreaded smell of coolant.

1 guess as to what is wrong...

That's not too bad. Mine let loose on the cloverleaf on ramp, spewing hot anti-freeze onto the gas pedal and foot. Hard to concentrate on driving while almost boiling water is being poured onto the foot.
Not one of the more fun days in the bird!
I have replacing the heater core on my calendar for the fall.
Good Luck!

More likely an air flow diversion problem as in one of the diverter doors isn't in the right position to divert enough air through the heater core. Which system, manual or EATC?

Manual.For what it's worth,everything works,air moves from defrost to panel,to floor..etc.

Here is the plan...

I'm going to convert the car to a 5 spd. I want to replace the interior with Charcoal/Raven. The existing dash is heavily cracked. I have also heard some funny noises from behind the dash when actuators are moving diverter doors.

So, I guess a bad heater core is just going to jumpstart my interior swap. A blessing in disguise. :-)

Any words from the wise on the dash swap?

Thanks guys. NATO rocks!

Ask Dan S. He muttered something about an intense Valium therapy Big Grin

Bud30Pk. The heater core could be clogged. Might try back flushing and see what kind of flow it's got.

I don't know about being wise, unless you're speaking of a wise a** Big Grin , but my suggestions are (1) go slow, (2) take plenty of pictures and make notes, and (3) did I say go slow?

My friend Joe is right. I would also suggest packing a lunch. As for me, I like to go to the self-service recycling yards for practice because if you break or lose anything, who cares? Big Grin It's like making a dry run.

There is GOOD info on heater core swap! Search for the write-up, it would be well worth your time.
