no worky starter

the 85 i just got if i take jumper cables and go directly from battery to starter it will work. changed the selenoid with a known good one it just clicks, ran jumpers from switch side of selenoid to starter and still click. grounding problem maybe? any ideas?
88tc (sold) but keeping an eye out.

Mne recently did that. I found the main battery ground cable and the starter cable were both corroded. Checking resistance did not indicate the problem but some corrosion was visible at the ends of the wire where it meets the ring connector

thanks, thats kinda what i was thinking but was feeling too lazy to get back under it again after trying the selenoid and replacing the starter.
88tc (sold) but keeping an eye out.

Voltage drop tests across terminals, cables, etc should help isolate the problem.
