I just completed a ranger roller swap, and some bottom end freshening up.now it just wont start.with the timing light on when im cranking the mark is pretty much where it should be.I can smell gas so it seems to be getting fuel. when I first tried it the dizzy was 180 off, could I have fouled the plugs?I would have thought they would have dried out overnite.anyone have any suggestions as to my next move?

Are you sure the cam timing is correct? If you set it and then didn't check it after turning the engine over a couple times it may not be right.
Pull the plugs and see if they are dry.

Check the firing order also.

theres an auxilary pulley on the bottom right. This one connects to the distributor and oil pump.

If you moved it while doing the timing belt, it will change the "dist" timing.

Put the crank at TDC and see if you have the cam pointing at the notch.

If i remember this right. Crank the motor over twice going clockwise. And try to get the crank pulley notch on the 10Degree mark and your distributor rotor should be pointing at the number 1 spark plug wire.

The timing marks on the crank pulley are at TC,the mark on the cam gear is lined up with the middle one of the 3 plastic pointers, the crank bolt, the aux bolt and then the mark on the aux gear are all in line pointing at the top of the drivers side fender.the plugs are a little wet and smell like gas.could the cam be 180 deg off,in other words maybe it is set up on TDC of the exhaust stroke.

It's possible
You could be out 180*.

You need to check again.

you can just rotate the distributor 180 degrees. Or just pull it out and reinsert to the right firing time.

the crank rotates twice to equal one cam rotation.

good luck.
I have to go to nappa and order a freaking dist gear because its seized on. Then i broke the teeth trying to press it off without a bearing seperater.

while you got the dis out, change the pick up, thats what im doing. [Image: smile.gif]

well i got it running for like 30 seconds,it was popping and wouldnt rev much past 900 RPMS no matter how much gas I gave it. timing was at 10 BTDC
everything lines up nice when crank marks are lined up notch on cam is in middle of pointers, rotor is pointing at number one.crank bolt, aux bolt then aux notch are all inline pointing at drivers side fender.it seemed like motor was running on 2 cylinders. Is it possible the cam could be 180 deg off and still start?.

while you have it running, i would move the dist by hand, very slowly. And get it where its running smooth.

I think you have something timed incorrectly.
