Hi everyone. My name is Chas. New to this forum and just thought I would introduce myself and say thanks to all the great information I have read here over the past couple of weeks. I am the original owner of an 88 Midnight Blue TurboCoupe, 5-speed. The vehicle has 93,450 miles as of this writing. Other than an upgraded sound system (which after 20 years needs upgraded again), the car is completely stock; runs as smooth as it did day one and still grabs 30.7 MPG on the interstate. PRC still completely functional and hope it stays that way. This car is my summer driver in addition to a Victory motorcycle. I live in the snow belt of Pennsylvania and this car has never seen the snow or road salt that has so effectively wiped out two truck bodies over the same period I have owned the T-Bird.

I found the forum while doing some research regarding restoring the car versus selling and getting a new summer driver. In the end, I just love the way this car looks and drives; just as much as when she was new. So she’s stayin’!

As I said it runs great, but does have some areas of need and concern. There is what appears to be a rear main seal or rear section oil pan leak, minor at this point. There are several other areas of concern that I see many of you folks have already had to tackle including a heater core, (just starting to get a little moisture on the passenger side windshield), window motors that are getting weak, cracking trim and a paint job that now looks every bit of 26 years old, among several others.

So the research will begin and based on available $$$ and time, which will be limited this winter but should be better next winter, it’s time to put this girl back to as new as I can get her.

Welcome to the board. You are amongst friends. In regards to the oil leak, it may well be in it's own right, but it is worth checking the pcv to make sure it isn't letting boost into the crankcase and stressing seals. Take it out, hold it straight up and down and blow down through the small end. If it passes ANY air, replace it with only the Motorcraft part EV-127-A.

Cleaning the guides and slides and lubrication the moving parts in the window mechanisms may help the window motors

Didn't think of checking the PCV valve. Will shake and rattle and see if there is air through it tomorrow. I was leaning towards the pan gasket for the leak as I had to change it for a front leak about 18-19 years ago, but I really haven't looked closely at it yet as the leak is slow, a quarter size spot per week or so. I've lubed the windoes twice over the past 10 years with no noticeable change. I will be in there this winter while replacing some very old speakers, I will lube it up again. Thanks for the suggestions Pete.
