As far as removing the rear molding, I would have to say if you do not have a new one do not attempt to remove it. You must remember it is a twenty year old molding that has been sitting in the sun for the majority of its life. The plastic molding happens to be a two part molding. There is one part that sits on the glass and then the exterior piece fits into the one that is on the glass. I took mine off, but I had searched and found a NOS rear window with the black molding also NOS. Seems to me that the metal trim that surrounds the older windows is easier to refinish back to new condition. The chip guard I also replaced, but that is because I wanted as close to factory as possible. Good luck.

I also replaced my dash board and she looks beautiful. My guy refinished the dash for 300. I am going to refinish another dashboard to have as a spare. Again lots of luck.

I am a little confused, as you made reference to a "metal trim". I do not have any metal trim on the rear window. Also, I have found several outlets for a new dash, and I am pretty sure that you get what you pay for, so can you recommend a good supplier?

Thanks

There were two options on the rear window molding. Either the soft plastic one or the metal trim. As you stated you have the plastic trim. My question to you is, do you have a source for a new dashboard?

I did not know that there was a window trim option. My windshield has the flat black trim but the rear has only the "plastic/rubber" which as I said is in very good condition but it has lifted away from the body in both of the lower corners which i thought that I would just weatherstrip adhesive back in place. I do not have a specific source in mind, only a couple of sites on the net, so I am open for suggestions. Since I am the original owner, I want it to look just as it did when new, if possible.

I don't think it was a "purchase option" type things. Some cars came with one type and at some point the factory switched to the other type.

I'm with Pete on this one. It wasn't an option you ordered, just at some point in the 88 model year they switched to the rubber/plastic molding.

What was the source for the new molding and window?

I have a distriutor that I do usiness with and he located me a new window, with the new molding. Looks great. The trim option on the window was not a purchase option, it was a change they made internally. Sorry if I confused anyone. I tinted my window and just waiting to install it after the body shop is done wet sanding and polishing.

The guy on e-bay has a back window, but non heated and a new molding. The window not installed put me out 300, but the one on evil bay is 305 plus shipping. Hope the item number helps you guys. Item #180257342033. That price is worth it just for the molding.
