Hi Everyone!

I recently found this group, it was suggested to me by someone on Reddit.

I am the owner of a '87 Turbo Coupe (2.3L). Pictures can be found here. When I was little, my grandpa had a Thunderbird that I thought was the coolest car ever. He passed away in 2003 (at the age of 55) and his car was sold, and no one in my family has any pictures or information on the car. Ever since back then the T-Bird has been the epitome of an awesome car to me. I've never been much of a "car guy", but I love working with my hands and learning new things, so when my sister got engaged to a mechanic two years ago I started to develop more of an interest in working on cars.

More about the car: I brought it home in September 2018, and have been crazy busy with getting married and a new house so I'm just now getting around to working on it. I saw the ad on Craigslist originally priced at $2300 and thought it was a neat car, but was just a bit too much for me. Two weeks later the ad was relisted for $1500, so I met the seller in person and walked away with the T-Bird for $1000! It has 125k miles on it and has been sitting outside for the past 4-5 years (on pavement, I believe). It currently does not start, but I hope to have it on the road this summer.

Just submitted my first parts order for the car, I have a new fuel pump assembly, distributor assembly, and other assorted parts on the way so hopefully I can get it up and running soon. My goal is to take it to MN Cars & Coffee before the end of the event this year.

Again, I'm new to the T-Bird and new to working on cars in general so I'm sure you will all see a lot of me around the forums. Can't wait to get started on the T-Bird!

Welcome to our world! There is lots of great info and knowledgeable people here to help. That rear window shade is a pretty rare find.

Welcome, nice looking car!
I am also pretty new at doing anything mechanical.
The guys on here are great, and many can offer nuanced information about this particular car that your mechanic might not know. Great for when the answer isn't one that can be fixed with general mechanical know how.
I like the back shade, I haven't seen one before.
Good luck with getting it going! Any hint from the seller as to what may be wrong?

Seller said I’ll probably need to fix a timing issue, but the car allegedly ran when it was parked 4-5 years ago. The turbo is in good shape mechanically, so I’m going to replace some worn parts and fix the timing, change the fluids and see if she’ll turn over!
