I just bought and brought home a 1988 Turbo coupe 5 spd. Need some help with it though, the turbo obviously sucks and there seems to be some sort of electrical problem caused by what seems to be an aftermarket alarm system, or did some of these cars come with them? Anyway Ill be needing some help here and there so Ill keep updating what's going on.

Welcome to the board. Can you be a little more specific about the problems?

"Blows it all off" You mean an air leak that occurs at 17 psi?

Yeah the wastegate opens at around 17 psi and won't close until after I shift, however I think its more based around the position of the throttle. About the electrical problem, when I closed the door yesterday the headlights flashed on and off and the doors locked and unlocked 4 times

Is your wastegate sticking? Did you remove the rod from the arm on the elbow to check if its sticking? And it sounds like there is a aftermarket alarm system in it. If it has it and you don't got the owners manual for it or a key fob, I'd remove the whole system. It's gonna be more of a headache than its worth..unless your worried about theft in your area

I live in the backwoods so Im not worried about theft, how bad you suppose it will be to remove the system?

Is there a rectangular red ALARM light in the switch panel between the seats? Up thru 86, a factory alarm with said light was an option, but I dont remember if the factory alarm was still an option in 88.

What are the EXACT electrical problems you are having? How familiar are you with troubleshooting electrical problems on "modern" computer controlled engine systems?

The alarm light light is a little red circle to the left of the steering wheel. As for troubleshooting electrical problems on computer controlled engines, this will be my first car Ive had to do that.
