They also made some (but not many) diesel Escorts and Tempos in the mid 80s. They were even slower than the gas powered versions, which were SLOW.

We had a diesel escort and a diesel VW at school. Theyve been worked on for countless hours, but never seen them run.

Actually, the Turbo Diesel Rangers were very common up here in the Northern part of North America! Still see the odd one running around. At one time I had looked at buying a couple of of the engines from a wrecker yard (The engines usually lasted longer than the truck did!) to stuff into my boat, as I had twin 470 Mercruisers (I-4 gas engines) and the RPM for the boat at cruise and the top RPM for the Turbo Diesel were a great match. Sold the boat before I had a chance to do the swap. (At 8 gallons an hour for gas, it was getting hard to justify, the Salmon I caught ended up being worth about 20 dollars a pound!!!!)
Great little engines, tough as nails.

its a little off topic but you gotta love the salmon fishing there. i wish i still lived in van. i was roofing in a steel mill in delta right on the river, you could see them jumping out of the water.
