Ok say hypatheticaly you(everybody)could have a custom chip built the way you wanted it.Any thing (within reason).
What would you want it to acomplish.
I know most like the higher rev. limit, but what else?
I'm talking serious too.Not b/s.

Actually, the rev limiter isn't that important to me. It might be if I had a cam built to handle 7000rpm, but my car's out of steam by 5500 or so as it is. I'd like the computer to be a little better at determining how much fuel to add under boost, especially during that weird phase it goes through between 3000 and 4200 (i think) where it runs super rich. This may be safest, but it's not very condusive to making good power. And if you try to compensate for that by lowering the fuel pressure a bit manually, then you encounter pinging outside of that range. Maybe some sort improvements so that the chip could handle larger injectors and other mods by simply plugging in a modular chip of some sort.

I wouldn't want a chip. A chip, at best, is designed around a fixed set of conditions ( your modifications). Change the modifications and the chip is no longer optimized (if it was in the first place) You would be better off looking at a system that allows you to tune it as conditions change. One example would be the EEC Tuner.

Maybe a whole new computer would be the best solution, if possible. What would be nice would be an EEC with small potentiometers that are accessible from the outside that could be used to adjust the computer's base values, within certain limits. For example, I would like to be able to adjust the open/closed loop switch rpm, (raise it a few hundred rpm,) and I am sure that others would like to be able to adjust the base injector pulse width, so they could use higher psi injectors without running rich. Those with 87/88 TCs would also probably appreciate an ability to change fan activation temperatures. It would be real nice if these base values could be changed just by a small adjustment with a standard screwdriver.
While I'm dreaming, it would also be nice if the computer updated and learned faster, so it didn't take a tank or two of gas for the computer to relearn after the battery gets disconnected, or timing adjustments are made. It would be nice if the computer had the ability to find the most efficient (both in terms of fuel economy and performance) default timings, so that all computers have the ability to maximize their car's performance.
Most of all, it would be nice if the computer were affordable, and paid for itself over the course of a few years in improved gas mileage.

Sounds like Mike W. pretty much covered it for me except it would be nice if it fit in the stock location and had a place to hook up a laptop computer to do the manual adjustment.
Since were dreaming here.........have it plug directly into the stock harness. [Image: smile.gif]

I want a computer that interfaces with an in-dash LCD screen that allows you to view and modify those values.
That '86 Buick Riviera I mentioned a few threads back has something similar to this, actually. The CRT touchscreen in the dash lets you, with the help of a bunch of codes in the service manual, change the torque conveter lockup strategy and some other things.
Also, all the dash switches go through the body computer. You can test all of them and see what they're doing from the dash screen. And if a slider switch jumps around erratically, the computer knows it is bad and sets a trouble code! His car set a code for the windshield wiper delay switch once.. That's just plain cool. Ok nobody really cares huh.
I'm not talking new computers,I would like that too.But I know some of you(maybe not as many as I thought)have chips or want one.So if you could choose the things it will do for your car, what would they be.
This isn't working the way I thought it would!

FOr $100 or so over the cost of a custom chip, you can buy an EEC tuner, and play with every parameter thru a laptop. Only downside to an EEC tuner is the learning curve that goes with it.
