Ok I know a guy with a 1992 Camaro who wants to race for some money hes got a 350 bone stock automatic(nice as car for a Shitvolet)and I have a 88 Turbocoupe with gillis Valve pushing 13 psi K&N cone induction, timing advanced 12-13 degrees and a 5 speed any chances for me??? P.S., the only real reason i want to race this guy is he thinks hes top sh*t with his camaro and says if some Ford beats him he will drive his car into a brick wall : ) (I suggested giving it to me...) ......Anyone out there raced one of theses cars?

I've kept my mouth shut on camaros for a bit...but some friends of mine have
1) 83 305 (5spd)
2) 88 350 (5spd)
3) 91 350 (auto)

All bone stock. All of them I beat by about 1/2 car lenght in the informal stoplight race.
Oh, by the way, at the time this happened (early 90's). I beat them in a stock 92 Escort GT.
Yeah. I wouldn't believe it either. First I beat the 305 by a car. So my other friend says that he can do it (with a bigger engine). I figured he could, but would amuse him. To my surprise (or his lack of shifting ability??) I beat him. 3rd friend heard this, and tried to surprise me at a stop light. Beat that also for the lane end race.
I would guess your TC should be able to. Put your boost at 15.
It's possible my friends also don't know how to drive...?

Yeah, crank the boost to 15-17lbs, run high octane, unplug the KS, and I say he'll lose.

Except for new LS1's....I eat Camaro's up...BTW, they hate that [Image: biggrin.gif] (especially with my 2.3-TURBO license plates).

Stock the early 90s automatic Cameros run mid/low 15s. Go from a roll, and you can probably take him.

My daughter and I were out on a Sunday afternoon drive on historic Route 66 when a couple of guys in a V8 (not Z28) Camaro thought they'd show up Dad and his old fart car. Boy, were they were pissed when they caught up to me at the next light and I told them it was a four-banger. That's the fun part for me!

Umm...Matt S there were no fbody 5-speed 350 cars stock. Either he lied and had a 305...or he swapped in a tranny or engine. Now there are big differences with the fbody engines. The V8's in the fbody cars can range from a whopping 175 hp to a respectable 245 hp. The 305 LG4 or TBI engines were garbage. The TPI engines are the good engines available in them. There were either 305 automatics, 305 5-speeds, or 350 autos(no 350 5-speeds available ever). Since he is saying he has a bone stock 350 auto...then sounds like he has a Z28 with the TPI engine in it. The engine he has in it is rated at 245@4400(hp) 345@3200(torque). I would say the camaro has you...but with street racing anything is possible. If his car is an RS he is bs'ing you..unless he has a B4C package. Best bet to check out if he has a stock 350 is to check his 8th digit on his Vin#..if it is an 8 then he has the 350 TPI engine. Well good luck...let us know how it goes.

If you can drive your 5 speed I'd say you already got him. I raced an 80 something Z28 with a 350 auto and killed the guy from every stop and beat him by over a half a car length @ 1/4mi. Don't race long enough to let the 350 wind up because it will probably get you in the end on a long race. By the way when I raced the Z I was driving a bone stock 85 TC w/5 speed. Good Luck.

"Either he lied and had a 305...or he swapped in a tranny or engine."

Heh. Yeah. I bet he lied. But he was the arrogant type. So like I said. I humor him.
He kept talking about how my Escort GT was crap (maybe that's not a lie), but he kept not listening to me when I said it wasn't an 90 pony, and that I didn't buy it because I think it's fast, but it found me after my 71 Mustang died and I was in need. I think I just surprised his ego; not the car (if it was a 350 convert).
Still, it was fun to see the look on his face.

Get that boost UP! If you think you need the extra edge(probably not though, if his car is stock), when ya meet for the race put some chunks of ice on the intercooler and don't drive around too much before the race!!! [Image: biggrin.gif] Sick 'em boy, sick 'em

I have had run ins with early 90 camaros too and always came out on top, even with my a4ld.

My config is: 88turbo engine, 93 a4ld with oversized cooler, 3" exhaust, Dynomax turbo, volvo fmic, gillis at 15, k&n in fender, and a lot of work to lighten the car (fiber hood, fiber hatch, dyna battery, alum driveshaft, etc). Not sure what kind of hp I am getting but it's much lighter than stock. I will lighten it further by going manual rack soon too.
2.3L Turbo in 88 stang, browntops, 93 a4ld, volvo ic, broncoII rad, gillis valve set @15, k&n af.
