Ok I get the idea it would be worth while to go ahead and drop the tranny then bolt it up to the back of the motor and slide it in that way. Can someone give me a good write up on this? Also how hard is it hard to do?

What is the weight of the t5?

When I unbolt the drive shaft do I have to mark anything to make sure it goes back in ok?

Also I am pretty much a car newbie should I really try this? Also when I put the motor back in will it be as easy as dropping the motor on the mounts? I really dont want to get in over my head again guys. Thanks

I don't know much about this but if the tranny is on the engine you need to have the car high enough to accomidate the tilt that the engine will have to be at to accomidate the added length of the engine - tranny combination.

The one nice thing about putting the trans on the motor outside of the car is aligning the clutch. Yes I think it is easier to put them both in at one time. The angle isn't really a problem. Never checked the weight on the T5, probably about 50#'s. I have never marked the driveshaft, they are 0 balance.Just make sure u stuff the shifter opening with a rag before installing so shit don't get into the trans. If u have the motor out now the thought of being over your head is a bit late. Dude u will be fine. Just remove the d.shaft, unbolt the crossmember, disconnect the shifter(remove the boot, take the 4 bolts out, remove the shifter)also the speedo cable and wires. Hyd. clutch must be removed (maybe w/o disconnecting)Put a floor jack under this before removing is probably the easiest(I have a hoist cause I'm getting old&lazy)Don't see no big problem. If you have an old nose peice from a T5 driveshaft take it and put it in the back of the trans when u take the shaft out to save your fluid and a hellofa big mess. Peice of cake.

Just speaking from experience, Icefire and I didn't find it too difficult to get the T-5 into his car with the engine still in the thing. Just separate the tranny and bellhousing from each other and it will make it a whole lot easier. We did it lying on our backs in the dirt of my front yard. The only thing I can think of marking is the position of the driveshaft to the axle flange.

I changed my clutch just the other day... these cars are a breeze to fool with on the tranny... all U have to do is pull the car up on a set of car ramps, unbolt the shifter on the inside of the car, unbolt the flange on the rear for the driveshaft, (fluid will leak out the rear of the tranny U will need a pan behind it to catch it), unhook the wires on the side of it, unbolt the four bolts where the tranny bolts onto the bellhousing, unbolt the crossmember, me and a friend done this... one person could probably get away with it tho, tranny is not that heavy maybe 50lbs...
