Need some help

My 85TC blows some whitish/bluish smoke upon startup when it has been sitting for more than a couple of hours but I have now been noticing it blowing this same smoke while sitting at a redlight or in traffic. It doesnt really blow a cloud or anything when I accelerate, just sitting at idle and it doesnt do it under boost either(had someone follow me to check). I also now seem to have a light tapping sound that appears when Im driving the car and it hasnt warmed up yet but it will eventually go away, the sound doesnt get any louder when I rev it really. For the smoke Im assuming valve seals but does this sound like it? I have good oil pressure(30psi warm) and the car runs ok otherwise. I have a what I think to be good head from my old 88TC that is complete that I have contemplated putting on but this car has been well cared for its life so Id imagine it may be something simple. Ive never replaced valve seals(have done headgaskets though) so I dont know exactly how to replace them, is there anywhere that I can find a step by step writeup with pics on how to do it? I did a search and got an idea but I dont think Id be comfortable doing it just on what Ive read so far. I know this is kinda long but any help is appreciated. Thanks

I tend to agree with your assessment of valve seals or guides or both. Start up smoke is typical of seals. So is idleing, where vacuum in the intake/head is highest and most likely to draw oil past worn seal/guides.

On the noise, does it change at all with rpms?

A little more info after taking a closer look at things this weekend. The tapping noise I hear does not increase as the RPM's increase, in fact if I rev it past like 2000 it will go away but come back when the rpms drop back down. The noise will go away though after driving the car for a couple of minutes and sounds like its coming from under the valve cover.
I pulled the valve cover and everything looked ok, the valve seals were replaced by the previous owner like 2 years ago using the Fel-pro ones, I remembered him telling me that right after I pulled the valve cover and saw them.
Some things I noticed though. The U/L intakes have oil in them, the vam hose has oil in it as well as in the vam. The PCV valve is approx a year old now and is a Ford one, could this be a problem? Also when I put everything back together I ran the car and with it running I pulled the breather cap off and the car started to "die out" but it didnt stall and it also blew smoke out of the exhaust when I took it off. Could this be a problem? I see like 30-35psi of oil pressure still if that makes any differance in diagnosing this problem. Could it be a turbo seal?
I know this is long but this is the second TC that has given me serious problems like this and both have been VERY well cared for and not beat on so its kind of disappointing. Any help would be appreciated as Ive had about enough of these cars.

Check the p/n on the PCV: Ford P/N: E5ZZ-6A666-A The Motorcraft box will also have EV-127-A on it. Then, holding it straight up an down, try to blow through the small end. If you blow ANY air at all through it, replace it.

Does the inter cooler also have oil in it? I'm assuming it does if you have oil in the upper/lower intakes. What kind of mileage on the engine?

While not always an indicator one way or the other have you checked the turbo shaft for side and end play?

I'll check the PCV today but last I checked it was fine. The car Im talking about is my '85 that currently has no IC on it but the hose running from the turbo to Throttle Body usually has oil in it when I pull it off but not much. Off hand I think the engine has somewhere around 125,xxx miles and I bought it from a previous owner who was a member here and took great care of it(he had it since '96) and Ive taken great care of it since I had it thats why its very frustrating. Last I checked the turbo had very little shaft play but I can check that today also.

I checked the turbo and PCV today. The turbo has barely any shaft play, its the same as when I purchased the car last year. The PCV was letting air pass through when I blew into it, not "alot" but there was a noticeable amount going through. I'm gonna get a new one tomorrow but I dont think that will solve my problem. I also cleaned out the breather cap and hose with no change in smoking. Will a compression test tell me anything if I did one? thanks for any help/suggestions
