Follow up! The PIMPx is installed and the car is running, not perfect yet, but very drivable and much more responsive without the VAM. The install was very easy as I had the MAP hose already routed next to the EEC, I just swapped in the 60lb injectors, soldered my wideband into pin 29 of the wiring harness, went through the initial tuner studio steps, turned the key, started! Tuner studio is fairly intuitive and easy to use, but some of the options and labeling is not what I recognize, so it takes some getting used to. My initial idle was running real rich at warm up temps, so I had to adjust those cells, and I had to adjust the initial idle cells to get it to idle down faster after revving it up or putting the clutch in. Still have not done any full throttle pulls yet, just some light boost driving, but all seems to be good, with only some adjustments to my cold warmup cells left to do. Also, my factory EEC that I pulled out of the 88 turned out to be a remanufactured unit replaced back in 2014. At some point my factory LA3 got replaced and this one lasted 7 or so years before it failed.

Sounds like good news with the install of the PimpX!

Are you going to have someone tune it for you? There's a few guys that do remote tuning if you have wifi in your garage and laptop to remote into.

Mikey,
that's good to know, are they members on here that know the 2.3's? I was planning on doing it myself by watching the cells making adjustments as required. The only area that would need to be on a dyno to make the best adjustments would be the timing tables, but that's not for me just yet. I would like to get better at this computer tuning thing.

Kuch, I sent  you a pm with the two MS / PimpX tuners I know of.
