If you have an analog voltmeter you can do it by using the diagnostic terminal under the hood (passenger side near the shock tower somewhere). If you don't, somewhere in the tech. articles is a method of using the CEL to flash them. You should be able to do this at home.

If you got a working CEL you can pull your own codes, see these two articles.

Even buying a cheap code scanner may be no more, perhaps less, than paying some one to pull codes.

I'd start with the codes. Even if I had a known good spare VAM to test with, I'd pull codes first.

well i played with the bird alittle more today and had the chance to drive her around the block...she wouldnt go over 2500 RPM's and then the second trip around the block she ended up getting stuck and 2500 RPM's...i drove her around again but still the RPM's wouldnt move no matter what i did...all this was with the VAM unplugged...with the VAM plugged in she'l start up but stall right away....i was looking for the diagnostics terminal i found a spot were a vacuam line should be hooked up (it was a small black thing with a small wire harness plugged in) there shouldve been a vacuam line in there but it wasnt there when i bought the car...i hooked a vacuam hose up to it and blew on it and the cars idle changed a bit, but nothing crazy though..the black thing was mounted on what im guessing was the diagnostics terminal...any idea's?...im really not trying to take her to the mechanic but if she aint running right by monday then i guess i'l have to do it....but please if anybody can think of anything at all let me no..thanks

What side of the car was this on, Pass? or driver's?
What size and shape is it? Is it round with 2 vacuum ports and an electrical connector? Or was it more rectangle, like a pack of cigs with what only looks like a vacuum port pointing down?

That might be the barometric sensor which does not require vacuum to be hooked up to it. It measures atmosphere pressure, not vacuum.

im going to buy a fuel pressure gauge before i take the car anywhere just to see if it could be my fuel pump..i dont think it is but i planned on getting one anyway cause there just good to have..then i'l play with the VAM a little more but if she isnt running right within a day or two then i'l have no choice but to let the mechanic try to pull some codes...any other ideas will help til then..thanks

You don't need a mechanic to pull the codes. In fact, with us here, you don't need a mechanic.

Most of them don't have a clue what this car is and you can pay lots of money to make your problem worse.

Have you read through all the Tech Articles and FAQ's? You can pull the codes using the check engine light. Or for 15 bucks get an actron code reader that beeps at you while flashing a light.
