Any help is appreciated I have an 87 turbo and it recently started making this knocking noise when I drive it and has practicaly no power. I think it's the turbo but I am not sure. If I am not in gear and gas it the motor sounds fine. But while I am in gear I hear the noise and car has no power. Any help is appreciated.

Also if it is the turbo where can I get one from I live in Northern California up the pennensilla. Please direct me to anyone who may have t-bird parts in that area.

Thanks

How bad a knock? Are we talking a ticking or an O-my-god the bottom is going ot fall out?
Is the knock rpm related? Deos it happen all the time, just hot, just cold?
Can you hear the turbo spool up? Are you getting any boost, either indicated on the gauge or seat of the pants? How many miles on the engine and how has it been driven and maintained?

Letting the cat out of the bag is a whole lot easier than putting it back in.

I guess it's more of a ticking noise, you only hear the noise when your in gear but if I am in nuetral I can gas it and it seems fine witch lead me to beleieve it's the turbo. It happens all the time cold or hot. I don't see any turbo boost on the gauge and defennelty not on my pants I can bearly get the thing to 55 MPH nad has no power. There is about 78K on it. I would the car is probably not driven like normall people drive but I did not beat it all the time. A buddy of mine did something to the turbo and it started exceeding the normal 12 PSI on the boot gage if I floored it and then it would not run right so I tried not to floor it cause then I would make @ high PSI simular noise to what it's doing now.

On the noise, it probably not the turbo. Try pressing your foot lightly and briefly on the clutch in any gear when it's ticking and see if it stops. If it stops it's probably the T/O bearing or clutch fork.

On the power issue it sounds like one or both of the big inter cooler hoses are leaking. Is you inter cooler attached to the support bracket that goes on the front of it. If not, the I/C will blow out of the hoses no matter how tight it's clamped. The other thing to do is closely check these two hoses for cracks/splits. Take them off and inspect them. Then be sure to get them on and clamped properly be sure the I/C seats in the bottom hose proplerly and the clamps are in the right place. Let us know what you find.

Find out what your buddy did and let us know.
Then we can tell you if it was a safe way to raise boost or a better way to add and control boost.
