need electrical help

I just picked up a 87 TC 5 speed low option car. It had been setting for years( it has a 1999 inspection sticker) with a bad fuel pump. I cleaned out the tank and fuel lines then replaced the pump. Changed the oil and then fired it up. It runs great and smooth.

So far the only problems are electrical. The gauge lights don't work, fuel, oil, temp. and amp gauges don't work either. The tach and speedometer do work. The cooling fans will not come on even when I turn on the AC, which works great. Fuel door will not release but trunk will. All lights work.

I can't find any blown fusses. Are there any relays that will control these? It appears the gauges are not getting power. I do have another gauge cluster I will be trying in a couple days.

any ideas,

Oil, temp and gas - could be the IVR or the resistance wire that feeds it. Check your email.

Amp gauge - these (almost) never work. I saw one move once, only once!

See the Tech Article on fan diagnosis

Swap the connectors for the trunk release and the gas door.
If it works then, you got a wiring problem

First thing to do is check the ignition switch. Might as well replace it, as that is cheap and easy and will eliminate it as a cause.

For fans, remove ECT connector and jumper connector. Start engine. Both fans should run. If they dont, start troubleshooting. First thing to do is jumper each fan to the batt and see if the fan motors are good.

ignition switch was bad but the gauges still don't work. I pull the gauge cluster from a parts car and will check that next.

Is the gray resistance wire from the ig sw to the cluster intact? common for them to break.

Check the gray resistance wire from the ig sw to the cluster to be sure it is intact. Common for it to break.
