When you change your clutch do a complete job. NAPA has a kit rebuilt that include everthing except pilot. My bird had a clutch done just before I bought it. However they only changed the disc and bearing. It went less than a year later. When I replaced it I had the flywheel turned my local tranny guy said it had never been turned. Do it right the first time and it will work like a charm.

The heater cores a bitch be careful I cracked my dash when removing it....

Skip, headgaskets can blow in different ways and have different symptoms. Sometimes just 1 cylinder will be low on compression. Sometimes it will blow between to cylinders and both will be low on compression. Somtimes it will blow so that oil get in the coolant or sometimes it will be coolant in the oil. Sometimes oil will leak down the outside of the head. Also these engines are nortorious for wearing the lobes off the camshaft which will give a low compression reading in the affected cylinder(s). I would suspect a worn cam before a bent valve. Clean the EGR and see if that helps your idle problem. If not then pull the upper intake and the valve cover and look at the cam.

I had a noticeable clicking, especially at idle, when I had a worn lobe. An Escort I had previously ran real rough with a worn lobe, but that lobe was probably worn more than the one on the TC was.
