Don't they run 700hp V8s?????

Seriously though, I used to be a rabid NASCAR fan... Pulled for David Pearson in the 70s, when he drove the Wood brothers Purolator Mercury Cyclone. In the 80s-90s when they ran T-birds was Bill Elliott fan, but lately since he retired(and all the cars look alike), I ain't had much use for it.

I don't bother with nascar because:
a) if I want to watch cars parade about in circles, I'll sit myself at one of NJ's traffic circles
b) to spite Speed Channel

We just recently got Speed Channel in my area (well..~2 years ago), and I've noticed that half the time I turn to the channel, they're showing some "exciting" nascar coverage that doesn't actually show any cars. I don't care what Jeff Gordon does in his free time, and I don't want a half-hour long explanation of the drama that ensued after a crash at the last race.

I'll admit that I enjoy watching any races at Watkins Glen, though [Image: smile.gif]

Ill Admit it too im not too big of a nascar fan anymore. When they made winston go away I saw that as the beginning of the end! But I am a diehard Tony Stewart fan. Wether it is cup, irl, busch, midgets, sprints. He Can win in anything! I think they should have a run what you bring kinda series. No restrictor plates, no rules only ones for the sake of saftey, for the drivers and fans! Remember in 1988 bill elliott ran a lap in excess of 214 ( i think his official time was 212.809) mph in an 88 t-bird no restrictor plate and won the pole. also he was 2 laps down in a race due to an oil or power steering pump problem , came back to win WITHOUT the benefit of a caution. Could any driver do this today with the way rules are ? you tell me.

This is so off subject I feel dirty typing this.
NASCAR is where I fell in love with the areobird. Bill Elliot in the the #9 Coors car with the gold rims and Davey Allison's #28 rookie car are perminantly etched in my brain as what a stock car should be like.
I agree NASCAR is not what it used to be. Restricter plates and the stupid "lucky dog" free pass at a caution have ruined the sport but, I have a TV in my garage and every Sunday afternoon I still enjoy turning on the race, opening a beer, and tinkering with my car.
Being a Davey Allison fan as a kid I became a Ricky Rudd fan when he started driving the 28 for Yates. I still am even though Wood Bros super suck this year. Also like Jamie McMurray even though my beloved 28 ford is now a #42 dodge.

Because NASCAR is to racing what the Special Olympics is to sports these days.......

I love when the season is over and Speed actually shows something else besides all the NASCAR crap all the damned time...worthless....24/7....

You ought to like this one. Bill and Davy in turn #3 at the OLD Richmond Fairgrounds track. This was when NASCAR racing was fun.

FANTASTIC!!! [Image: biggrin.gif] [Image: biggrin.gif] You made my day!!! That's NASCAR when it was cool!!! My wife bought me the diecast of Davey's rookie car. I love it. I have 20 or so pieces and it's by far my favorite.
That picture is my new desktop background. The two coolest NASCAR t-birds ever!
Thanks!! [Image: biggrin.gif]
