Most bookstores will have something on TBird history. I was browsing through one in Half Price Books last weekend. Lots of info.

From a side bar in an article about the 88 TC in the august 88 issue of Hot Rod Mag -

"Since its introduction in '84, the new Thunderbird has been a mainstay of Ford's motorsports program. Its bold styling and aerodynamically sound shape have made it one of the most formidable cars in drag racing and oval track racing. The acknowledged master of NHRA Pro Stock racing, Bob Glidden, has won the championship year after year with his Thunderbird, and he continues to hold the NHRA national record with an elapsed time of 7.35 seconds, at 191.32 mph. Glidden also holds the IHRA Pro Stock record at 7.30 seconds, while Rickie Smith's Thunderbird holds the mile-per-hour record at 191.48 mph. In 1987 Glidden captured the NHRA Pro Stock championship, while Smith sewed up the IHRA Funny Car championship in a Thunderbird

In Winston Cup NASCAR competition, Bill Elliot's Ford Thunderbird gained national recognition by thoroughly dominating the series in its first year, and since then the Thunderbird has consistently been the fastest car on the superspeedways. lapping Daytona at 210-plus mph and circling the ultra-fast Talladega speedway at nearly 215 mph. The efforts of these and other dedicated Ford racers, along with the superior design of the Thunderbird, have made it a champion in the top motorsports categories in this country, and there is every reason to believe that the Thunderbird will be providing more than their share for years to come"

Whew, I feel like the office bitch after typing all that. Hope that answers some of your questions.

Dan, Actually, in a time long long ago, I dated a woman nicknamed the Amazon. And a few years later I brought her across the border (state border). my credibility should remain intact [Image: biggrin.gif]
