hey everyone, I am new here. I just bought an 88 tc friday and have been working on it since. it has been abused by the previous owner, so i am just trying to fix the problems before i start with the modifications. Right now the biggest problem i have is the fuel, temp, oil, and amp gauges are not working. the speedo and tach and turbo are. What is the problem, is it the ivr that ive been reading about on this board? thank for your help, forrest

The problem with the fuel level, oil pressure and engine temp is most likely the IVR. I don't think it has anything to do with the amp guage, though.

Why do yo think it is not working? My amp guage doesn't ever move much (if mine reads at all below the center mark it's not charging). Even after starting several times in succesion and running lights and blower motor it doesn't move up much. It seems to be very sensitive.

the amp gauge doesent move at all. I killed the battery friday night and sat morning the guage was still in the middle of the range.

Welcome to the board and congrats on your "new" car. There are a couple articles in the
Tech Article. See Gauge Flux Fix and also
Solid State IVR. From a recent post on the subject I don't think to many of the amp gauges work, but it is a seperate problem for
the temp, oil and fuel gauge problem.

Another common cause besides a bad IVR is a bad ignition switch. Check to be sure there is 12 V at terminal A1 of the ig sw when they key is turned to run. Use a test light for this, not a DMM.

I replaced the ignition and the key switch since the key swithc fell out in my hand. It didnt correct the problem with my gauges, but im glad my ignition is all new. thanks for all the advice. forrest
