My First Turbo Coupe

Hello! I am new to this form and I am new to the Turbo Coupe world. I have grown up in a fox mustang family. We have had everything from LX notch cars to a 1986 SVO and a 1993 Cobra. A couple years ago I sold my 1989 Mustang GT to purchase a 1994 F150 Lightning. I wanted to get back into a fox car and I just purchased a 1986 TC with about 140k on her. It appears that this car was well taken care of. I plan on doing some basic maintenance and just driving her around for a couple years until I finish college. I do have a couple questions for you guys though. My first one is the oil feed line to the turbo is seeping a little bit at the fitting on the turbo, and I was wondering if I should purchase a NOS one from a family friend of mine or should I put one of the stinger performance steel braided feed and return lines on it? As for the turbo where would be a good place to get a newly rebuilt one if it were to go out? For now I would like to leave the stock T3 AiResearch. I actually have a 87-88 TC air scoop hood I planned on using on another project, but I was wondering if it would be worth tracking down the 87-88 intercooler and bracket and put the hood and everything on my 86? For my last question, I was just wondering if anyone would by chance have the rubber hose that connects from the turbo to the intake? Mine appears like it is about to crack open. I am really excited to have this car and learn more about it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

86, welcome to the forum, you are in the right place for our cars. when I saw 94 Lighting I got excited as I love those trucks, would love to find one myself. My father had a new 94 back then and it was a fun truck to drive. I would try to loosen and re tighten the oil feed line to see if it reseals, if not the one from Stinger is very nice, I have one on my 88. if you don't have issues with the drain line, leave it be, they are a pain to get off and putting a new one on will be a challenge with the turbo still attached. The 88 intercooler would for sure be a good cheap power and reliability increase for your car allowing more boost and less chance of detonation, I would find one and put it on if not going to a front mount. If you are looking for a new turbo, the link below has some real nice options for a T3 as well as other 2.3T specific parts as he is a Turbo Coupe guy. Let us know if you have any other issues.

86,
I would also like to show you the link below, which is a great start for more power and more fun from your TC. First step, is to complete a good tune up on it: plugs (NGK or Motorcraft), wires (Motorcraft), cap and rotor ( I like the blue streak copper electrode versions, and fuel filter, and air filter. Change the oil, I suggest Quaker State 5w-30 full synthetic, and filter (I like Purolators or Motorcraft), you will have a great start for future mods.

Hello, I did just think of another question. Does anyone know if there is a kit for the thunderbird to have the clutch cable with the adjustor on the firewall and adjustable clutch quadrant just like the v8 mustangs?

if your 86 is a stock 5 speed, it should already have the cable and quadrant set up. Only the 87-88 TC's used a hydraulic clutch. Pretty sure any of the Foxbody Mustang clutch quadrants kits will work on your 86.
