my dash lights went out

So i was driving my '87 to work yesterday and I wanted to turn my new stereo on. well it wouldnt turn on when my headlights were on. After i turned off the headlights and flipped them back on, my stereo worked but the lights in my dash went out.. I dont know if I have to replace a light in there or not.. I dont even know where the fuses are..lol. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Fuse panel is located to the door side of the steering column under the dash; real PITA to get to.

Did you have the stereo installed somewhere? If so, I suggest taking it back to them and have them look at / fix it, it sounds like it may have an install problem.

Otherwise it could be just coincidental occurences, and perhaps the ignition switch needs replacement; a defective one can cause some pretty strange symptoms to manifest.
