Hey guys -
Just thought I'd throw this out there for some user feedback...
I've got a single Dynomax Ultraflo welded. After 50k or so (last summer) the weld around the inlet tube broke and the inner tube began to work it's way out of the muffler (and of course it sounded awful). I bought an Ultraflo SS and took it to the shop. They said no problem installing it.
After looking at the broken muffler, they called and suggested instead of replacing it they could simply re-weld the broken section and charge me little-to-nothing and get more life out of it. A couple hours and $10 later the car sounded great and the weld looked good.
So - a few months have passed - car's sounding awful again. I look under the car - same problem, but it's not the weld that broke (except for the usual oxidation the weld looks great). The sheet metal AROUND the weld has broken, and the inner tube is again backing out of the muffler.
I called the same shop - explained the situation - his response was Dynomax is one of the worst mufflers you can buy (in the performance category I assume). Something about the way they're welded (or not welded) blah blah.
At that point - of course - he recommended some other brand (Flowmaster I think) he sells for $120 installed.
Does he have a leg to stand on or is he just trying to sell his product?
Is the SS any more likely to hold up physically than the Welded?
