MSD TFI Coil Resistor

Hey all,

When I picked up my 84 TC it had a ratty looking MSD TFI mounted with a beaten up ballast resistor on it that had both been sitting in the car for at least 6 years. I have replaced the TFI Coil but the resistor started to fall apart when I went to put it back. Does anyone know if the resistor is necessary? If so what would be a viable replacement for it? Thanks for any info!

AFAIK, no EEC IV Ford came with a ballast resistor. Ballast resistors were only used back in the days of points ignition systems to drop primary voltage to the coil to increase the life of the coil and ignition points. In EEC IV, the TFI controls the coil current.
