I've looked into msd's 6al-2 programmable unit and was wondering if anyone has any experience with it. I've looked into the 6al-2 digital but the programmable version has top rpm limit, rpm limit for burnouts, launch rpm limiter, and adjustable timing curve in relation to boost pressure.
It does come at a price, $373.99 at jegs.com, also was looking into msd's distributor, but again comes at a price, 329.99.

I run that box. Absolutely love it! You lock your dizzy at whatever you want max timing to be (I do 40 degrees) and then build the normal timing curve and boost referenced curve up to that. You will need a map sensor to go with it. I used a 1989 Turbo Trans Am map and cut off a tab on the map and it plugged right up.
As for the MSD dizzy, you can't use it with the TFI ignition system. It is for either a carb setup or crank trigger stuff, I think.
Edit: I also had to use the MSD tach adapter to get the facatory tach to work with this box.

I wonder if the msd dizzy would work with pimp?

I wouldn't say all of it is useless to you. The distributor, in this case, is not compatible with the system. You will either need to install an OEM distributor or use an aftermarket engine management system that will accept a magnetic pick-up trigger for an input. You will probably also need to install a cam-sync reference as well with the aftermarket computer.

Thanks for the link, if I had the time and money I'd get everything and see if I could get pimp to work with the msd dizzy. But for now I guess I wont worry about it.

Why would you want it when the PiMP does everything you listed? You can even get rid of the dizzy entirely and go to EDIS-4!

It would really need to be one or the other. The most effective way to use both would be let pimp auto tune then copy the ignition timing tables to the msd ignition. In high boost applications I could see the benefit from the more powerful spark from the msd. But with my limited budget I would have to go with pimp. On that note what all is required to switch to dis?

EDIS is not DIS, they are two different systems. DIS started on Ranger pick ups and 4 cylinder Mustangs with 8 plug heads.
EDIS-4 is from later generation cars like 92-95 Escort & Tracers. For our TC's, the system requires the control head, ignition coil and VR sensor from a 92-95 Escort or Tracer. If you get it at a pick & pull, get all the wiring with it. Then you will need a 36-1 trigger wheel kit from someone like Pyro Pete @ TF.
In high boost applications you need to set the plug gap tighter. People are runing the EDIS-4 at 30+ psi in drag configurations and not having a problem.

Oh, thanks I didn't catch the edis/dis difference.
It will be one of the many items on my wishlist, waiting for the day I have a few dollars to play.
