MS2x w/COP Install Progress Thread

As I've stated in at least one other thread, I'm upgrading my engine management to a Megasquirt 2 extra with Coil On (Near) Plug setup. I figured why not make a progress thread for it?

I'm starting with a second-hand unit. I bought this setup from a TF member. It already has a tune loaded on it, but I don't think it's close to my setup so if anyone wants to take a look at the tune for me and suggest changes, here a link to download it:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/n6kg5ltsq3f3w0....27.24.msq

Now here's what I am putting in:

So far the only thing I've done is power it up and load the tune into TunerStudio, and I started making the bracket to hold the coils on the passenger-side strut tower.

I still need to finish the mounting bracket, install and wire an ACT sensor, install and wire the Wideband, figure out the spark plug wire situation, install the MS, and get the tune to the point where the car will start.

Stay Tuned...

Awesome I'm heading in the same direction!

If it's any help at all, I ran CoPs on my Zx2. I used 4 coils from a junkyard dodge stratus. They were wired in parallel, one common ground and two trigger wires. I would imagine it would be the same setup with an MS configured to EDIS and a CPS.

Whats your crank trigger setup like?

This setup is full sequential spark and uses a cam trigger wheel instead of the crank trigger. It's a missing tooth wheel that goes in the distributor in place of the factory rotor. Much easier to get set up and it uses the factory wiring with a couple of minor modifications to the TFI harness.

Learn me up man haha. Where can I get the cam sensor? I think I've seen what you're talking about online but I can't remember where. A TFI or PIP wheel or something?

Well my MS came from Wilson Racing and came setup to use the trigger wheel. You have a Pimp on the way, right? I would post something up on the Pimp forum or email Stinger about it. I'm not sure what it would take to run this setup with a Pimp.

This is the wheel:

But like I said, I don't know what you would need to do to make it work with the Pimp. I do know Wes K over at TF has developed something similar that will convert a distributor and will work with the Pimp. I just don't know a lot about it.

Awesome, setup should be the same; might just have to repin a wire or 2. Is there a sensor in there already to pick up the wheel or do I need to install my own? I can't see any of the pictures where I live (work) lol what is the bracket for?

This wheel uses the factory PIP inside the dizzy as the pickup so no extra sensor needed.

What bracket are you referring to?

Got the o2 sensor bung welded on tonight. This is the hurdle that's kept me from installing the thing until now (I've had it for 14+ months). I am lazy and really didn't feel like disconnecting the exhaust, but tonight, for some reason, I got some motivation and just went for it. I'm glad I did as this was the main thing that I really just didn't feel like doing.

And my wife's probably going to yell at me tomorrow because I did all this while wearing the only pair of light-colored pants I own...

Hahaha I have that same problem with my jeans. You never think about it until they're dirty.

Awesome info man you've saved me a lot of trouble! I need to do my bung hole too lmao. Does the stock downpipe come off or do I have to take the whole exhaust off? I'm hoping to have it all ready by the time my pimp gets here then swap the wheel in after I get it running with the stock dizzy.

I don't know about the downpipe. You'd have to crawl under there a take a look. I haven't looked at a stock exhaust in a while. I have a 3" system which is held together with torctite clamps so it's a breeze to take apart. Unbolting it from the elbow off the turbo is the only part that's a pain because the larger pipe interferes with getting a socket on the one of the nuts.

The bracket I need to finish is for mounting the LS coils.
