Try adding a k&n air filter and the superchip with bleed valve, next maybe a different turbo (you can pick one up on ebay for a good price, look under turbocharger). Next maybe a better exaust sytem, and finally a set off 373 gears. Hope that this will help you out. Quote:Originally posted by Karl Furtado:

Yeah, go with the superchip, had one put in my 88, I do seem to get through the rpms a lot faster than I used to. Didn't seem to hurt my gas mileage either.

3" single exhaust or dual 2.5" with super turbo or ultra flow muffler. K&N air filter in fenderwell. He has an automatic so he already has 3.73 gears. DO NOT get the superchip!!! It is a big waste of money. The only good thing about the chip is the bleed vavle. Just get the Ric Gillis bleed valve. Don't get too crazy with a bigger turbo, the automatic trans might not take it. If you do the exhaust, the air filter and turn up the boost to 18psi you should be happy. If this isn't enough then port the intakes and exhaust manifolds. This should put your car into the high 14's to low 15's in the quarter mile.

The chip is for sure just a big waste of money. I have the Gilli valve and it was the best $42.00 I ever spent. Automatic TCs in 87-88 came with 3.73 gears. The Reo930 K&N filter is a big help to. even more so if you remote mount it so that it doesn't see hot underhood air.
And a good free flowing exhaust is always a good idea on these cars.

i agree, from everything i've heard the chip is a complete waste of money. I think all it does is increase the rev limiter and allow maybe a little more boost. The gillis valve will definitely give you a good return on your investment (like $45ish). You really need to be careful with an auto transmission anyway. i am just about fed up with mine. They wont take a lot of power for too long. (assuming you have the a4ld)

You won't tear the motor apart, but if you add horsepower (even if you don't) you will tear up a stock auto trans. better get it beefed up before the performance mods. Forget the chip. K&N, Rick valve, exhaust system, timing to 12-13*.
