Missing/surging above 4000rpm...why?

Guys, I just got my TC back together this past weekend after fixing an oil pan leak. While it was apart, I installed a new oil pump, pickup tube, and a windage tray. Well, I after I got it back together it seemed down on power at first, but now it seems to be running strong. Now though, it misses above 4000rpm. It does it in every gear, but sometimes it falls flat on its face in first and second. Almost like you pulled the wire off the coil. The rest of the time it just misses. Does anyone have any ideas? I changed the spark plugs, turned the boost down, changed the fuel pressure around and nothing helped. Right now I'm thinking the spark plug wires died. Please help guys, I'm installing Brian Bitter's old turbo tomorrow and I want this thing to be running right. Thanks

Ya, try new plug wires, cap, and rotor. Use only Motorcraft parts. What is your plug gap set at?

They were at .35, but I tried .30 and there was no improvement. I'm really starting to think that it's the plug wires because it misses a little bit at idle now.

Clean the IAC and don't forget to double check your connections around the intercooler. They can cause a vacuum leak that does exactly what you are talking about. Don't forget autolite copper plugs, motorcraft plug wires... very important.

Yeah, you're having trouble with yours stumbling, I'm having trouble with mine stumbling. Hell, first one to get fuel or spark wins!

Back to the problems. I pulled the cap and it is a little worn. I'm going to get a new cap and rotor tomorrow. Is there anything wrong with running Jacobs Ceramic plug wires? I know that everyone says run the Ford wires, but it's BS to be replacing them every six months. At least the Jacobs wires have a lifetime warranty.

Don't know anything about Jacob's wires. How often do you have to change them?

I don't change MY plug wires every six months! That would be crazy unless your car racing is where you make your living. (pro-racer or something like that) About every 15000 miles or when needed. I haven't changed mine in 20000 and 5.0s are still dust just the same. And come on, is $25 bucks all that much over a six month period. Don't be cheap, give your car what it needs... or at least likes better.

I think your exactly right. Don't be cheap. By some wires that will actually make your car perform better. That's why I am going to buy the Taylor Pro 10.5mm wires. They have very low resistence and will allow all the extra voltage to get to the plugs. My car is heavily modified and Scott's will be soon too. I put wires on my car 3 times a year because they need to be replaced. I now run Autolite wires and have found them to be better than motorcraft for one reason. They have a lifetime warranty. Just pull them off and get them replaced for free. I think that the performance of my car falls off after the wires have around 1500miles on them. I always get a performence gain after installing fresh wires after 1000-2000 miles. Just my $.02
