Melling HiV Oil Pump- will it clear OEM pan?

I was going to replace my oil pump to a Hi-Volume Melling but noticed that they have a bigger gear which will cause the pump to reach further down in the pan. I am also reusing the original oil pickup tube, screen and pan and need to know if this will all still fit without any clearance issues or additional mods???

I saw some posts and profiles showing Hi- Volume pump installs but nothing about it being a problem free upgrade.

Why are you going to a HV pump? They are not necessary and can put excess stress on the aux/dizzy gears.

I haven't used either a HV or HP pump but I don't remember anyone mentioning having a problem with pickup location.

Personally, I believe the stock pump is very adequate. Also there is a lot of misleading info out there.

This is a good discussion and it brings out some incomplete understandings as well as some good grasp of the situation.

^^^^^^THIS! The aux shaft / dist gear are a weak link on these engines. No need to stress them even more, especially what a standard volume / standard pressure is more than enough in the first place.

I guess I only saw the posts regarding that HIGH PRESSURE pumps put excessive stress on the dizzy and that HIGH VOLUME pumps were on the fence of being neither beneficial or harmful.

Just thought it would be a good upgrade but if all agreed that both types (HP & HV) suck then so be it... stock it will stay.

I can save a few bucks with stock also, this Esslinger Billet Aux. $ Dizzy is a big nut!

sounds promising!

Did you replace just the distributor gear or the Aux shaft & Dist gear and new or used??
