started her up today, first time to actually mess around with her and Im thinking now "after all the reading 'thanks' Im thinking the chances of me having a rod knock are about 38 percent "at first I was 80 percent" looking good but there still is a noise that needs to be found and fix once and for all, sounds like a little top end noise, and hopfully trans?...sounds more like a chatter than a knock, AND driving the car when I speed up "dont even have to boost on it" and let off the whole car rumbles with the noise as if it was coming from the trans "5 speed manual"???...put my head under the car and sounds like loud chatter coming from the bellhousing area, sounds nothing like the knock I had in my jeep, definatley sounds like a loud chatter but what could it be???...and if there is also some noise from the head is that somthing I could fix myself I was planning on doing a cam if there was top end noise this way Im upgrading not just fixing, itl help me sleep better at night, and could I just leave the head on ,take the valve cover off and put in a cam and replace what ever needs to be replaced in the head in my garage myself?...I wanna tackle this project asap

For the trans rattle are you sure it isn't the heat shield for the cat converter. The welds break on those and they do rattle.

As for top end noise have you checked the fuel injectors. They can become noisy with age. Whatever it is, you need to diagnose it before you can fix it. Use a piece of hose or a screw drive handle like a stethoscope to try and pin down the noise more.

the car has no cat, definately sounds like the 5 speed trans now, sombody said on another forum the front input shaft bearing in the trans could be bad causing the whole car to rumble when Im letting off the gas but would that cause the loud chatter noise at idle?...and is this front input shaft bearing something I can fix myself while Im installing a new clutch?..plus how much will it cost?
