Not sure about the process of switching to mass air, but I am curious why you want to. I know on 90's fords with mass air, they usually respond to mods better than a speed density system. On our tc's, pimp stand alone ecu is a good way to go. Another choice is megaaquirts line of ecu's.

Thanks Brian for pointing that out, I'm still new to the tc's and didn't think of the vam as a maf meter, I was thinking of the hot wire maf meters.

From what I've found the ihi when not limited by the factory bc builds full boost about 2500 rpms. The factory bc doesn't really let you make full boost until about 4,000 rpms, im wondering if something with the factory tune is causing the surg or the 18psi on a ihi turbo. Im assuming you have a aftermarket boost controller, try backing it down to about 16 and see if it still does it. Other than that im sure one of the veteran nato guys will have a good answer.

Can you further describe the "surge"?

Do you have a wideband a/f ratio gauge? What fuel pressure are you running?
