they tranny on my new 87 look like its on its way out. i was wondering if the tranny from an 86 is the same or if it will work or what diffrence thre are

1988 5speed black every option. 3inch single turbo to tail(stinger), manual boost control. k&n cone walbro fuel pump

1986 xr4ti project car..... way to many mods to list.

I put the 86 Tranny in my 87. There is a very very very small difference in the ratios that you will not notice. As long as its in good shape, you should be fine.

I put an 87/88 transmission in my 86. As long as you don't plan on swapping bearing retainers, and you DO plan on swapping bellhousings, there should be no problem doing the swap in my opinion.
