i once saw an 'adapter harness' to ditch the vam and move to a MAF on ebay.. i asked questions about it on another forum and got 'ok' feedback about it.. can't find it now, but is it possible to switch to MAF without a tune? i'm just trying to A: get the car opperating correctly again and B: gear up for my end result of a volvo head and way more boost.. so can i just use the VAM harness to re-pin a MAF plug and call it a day? i'm a newb when it comes to these stupid VAM's

Take a look at the posts that I linked in the above thread. It's not a simply PnP operation.

With your plans, I'd be looking at skipping it and going straight to MS, Pimp, QH, etc. You're going to need an aftermarket tuning solution with what you've got planned.

i thought i read somewhere before that a MAf could be used with nothing more than an adapter harness.. crap

quarterhorse was looking to be my goal, but DIYautotune has pnp ms1's for under 400.. thinking that's the route i'm going to take before i even get geared up for the volvo head.. just sucks i have zero tuning skills.. my past standalone ventures were easy, with a tuner right down the street, who did my tunes for 50 bucks and a case of budlite lol.. but he's 3+ hours from where i live, now Sad

this is the MS i'm thinking of going with.. i already have the 4bar MAP, because they accidently sent me 2 when i was building my 408's ms2

For ease of install, setup, and tuning, I would save up for the Pimp. Yes it's more expensive, but it comes with a base tune to get the car running and the software has an auto tuning feature that'll tune while you drive. Plus there's no messing with any of the car's wiring. Just my 2 cents.

part of my issue may be wiring.. see my post in the general discussion.. lol do they have an ecu tuning for dummies book? :giggle:

i thought about the PiMP, but 1 of the reasons i like the idea of going MS, is the fact that i can throw away my harness and start fresh.. the only downfall will be getting it tuned, but i do know a tuner who could probably help me over the phone.. and there's always forums like eectuning.org.. it's something i want to learn, i guess it's time to start actually learning, if MS ends up being the route i take.. the PiMP is a sexy beast, though.. no doubt about it
