LSD for the TC

Yes, be VERY careful in the wet. I spun out (in two different directions, spin-correct-spin the other way) with my all season 225's. These old girls transfer weight pretty violently, so if you're excited about drifting, be warned, there's a fine line between a controlled drift and putting your arse in the ditch, when in a T-bird.

But the best way to keep your TC from kicking out on you in the winter, is to park it and drive the truck. Tongue

I spun my bird out and put it in a ditch exactly one month ago on the 9th. The front is pushed a half of an inch to the left and the left corner is pushed up 1 inch. And no the driver side door does not open. I call this weekend about getting it fixed.

Hmm,
tires must play a big part of handling cause I find the TC very forgivng in power slides, on wet or dry.
I've had my past Stangs sideways and then right around 360 style before I new which way was North.
TC is my choice for driftng.

As for Trac-Loc / Posi difference, I believe posi (chevy) is clutch packs loaded with little coil springs, whereras Ford Trac-Loc the clutches are forced together by torque. So the more gas you give it the more it bites.

tlswart: il be honest, it wasnt wet, it was perfectly dry.
i was tryign to be "cool" and you sxee how far it got me, but yea, posi isnt fun once the boost kicks in HARD!
i had expericance spinnign theses car aroudn corners using teh clutch ansd ebrake pedal, but i got cuaght unaware of how much that a un even road can react with these cars.( the road was was turnign onto has indents form tires marks and when eeaxh wheel went over it with full power when they get a lil slippy it roek them losse)

no fun, its been 6 months, andthe car is til sittign since that day

You think a Trac loc is "fun" in wet weather? Try a locker with 350 hp/340 tq with a 5 speed in a drag suspended Stang! The shorter wheelbase makes for some white knuckle driving.

I have a friend with a 70 javlin that is his drag car. 350 big block, locker rearend, and B&M shift kit. After he drove it to school in the rain, his exact words were, "Never again, Never f&%&*n agian." Thats how I feel about carelessly driving the TC in the rain, I was lucky the first time so I would rather not chance another accident.

BTW, Just incase some of you are curious, my tires are Pirelli Scorpions S/T so the feeling is mutual with you guys having problems with your BFs.

Brian,
Same difference. Uneven lanes or what ever that will cause a loss of traction and you have a condition that most professionals will do anything to avoid. Know your road before you burn a Ricer.

Is the 8.5" rear end any better than the 7.5"?

How about Posi vs. Trac Loc?

The 7.5 was worn out real bad when I put the 8.8 in my TC. The rear whined real bad, and when I took it out, there was way more play than I figured could be accounted for by a worn clutch pak, but I could be wrong. Part of the wear was due to the mismatched tires on the rear, part was due to abuse by the previous owner.

Swapping to an 8.8, and later installing a new clutch pack solved all of those problems, and made a big difference.

I got the XR7 (which wasn't abused) with the stock 7.5 rear after the 8.8 swap in the TC, and have had no problems or complaints. I can't really tell the difference in rear ends between the two when driving.

My personal advice would be to go with an 8.8 if you are going to treat the car rough. If not, it doesn't matter. At least a few of us have the 8.8 in our 86 or earlier cars, generally due to abused 7.5s. Don't know how many folks have worn out more than clutch packs on there 8.8s.

Yep, 8.8 (not 8.5) is stronger than the 7.5. 8.8 is found in 87-88 turbo birds. Manual trans 8.8 has 3.55 gears, and auto trans 8.8 has 3.73 gears

*** How about Posi vs. Trac Loc?***

Posi and Trac Loc accomplish the same thing--both rear tires are driven instead of one. I'm not sure what the mechanical differences are in how the lock is accomplished, but "Posi" is a chevy word, and "Trac-Loc" is a ford word for the same feature.
