Ok Bob I'll bite (and repost my results). Big Grin

www.coilsprings.com 1.5" lower, 20% stiffer springs custom made for my car. They have the original TC specs for turning a coil. Had to cut an extra .25 inch off the height on the passenger front to get everything equalized as close as possible. Coilsprings walked me through this and backed their product fully. They even offered to send me another set but I'm not that picky if all 4 corners are not .0125" in tolerance. 2 years ago they were $120/set.

Ride is 20% stiffer (LOL). But really it amounts to no bouncey-bounce in soft mode on a speed bump, rides (in a straight line) just a hair stiffer than a 2000 camry (just rode in one so that's my comparison). Does not float like a cadillac like it did..and is quite tight but forgiving when PRC is firm.

Car still sags slightly on the drivers side which I have resigned myself to believing it is a factory intention to counter torque (sounds good even if it's wrong). I have noticed it doesn't always appear to sag either. I have not measured, but I do question, the rear well being the same dimensions as the front (I don't think it is).

With a full trunk and my large mom in the back seat my dad reports having a floating feeling when sitting in the back seat so the rears could probably be even a bit stiffer if you routinely carry passengers and gear. A switch to firm solved what he was feeling.

**side note** When I spoke to coilsprings they had had a few complaints about the car sitting wrong; i.e. sitting the *same* as the factory springs were on my car. We all scratched our heads and they even called me unsolicited a few weeks later to make sure I was happy with my purchase after performing the modification to level things out. It still ain't perfect but like I said it's sitting better than it was.
Great service!

I don't know what you want to pay but when I did mine in 2004 I got springs from Coil Spring Specialties. The fronts were $128.20 and the rears were $138.60. Look up the posts under Retired 56 3/11/04 and 3/8/04. Hope this helps some.

I see Matt S just replied. I agree 100% with him. I'm very happy with the springs plus the car looks good sitting lower.

I called jcwhitney and checked on the suspension tecniques lowering springs they show available for 83-88 thunderbirds. They keep the fronts in stock, back ones are on back order till april, but are still available. But they are listed as v8 springs.

While we are on Front springs!!
My personal spring saga;
There never was a listing from moog for a performance spring for my 86. when it came time for springs my service mechanics (Goodyear)installed Moog cargo coils.
The whole car sat about 2" high because of the new springs put in over the years. I believe they used moog cargos in the front also. It raised the front about 2" from stock. To be honest it didn't bother me because I liked the spring rate and didn't really mind not hitting anything with the front valance.
I kept my moog cargo coils in the rear and bought the Maximum Motorsports adjustable lowers, I just put the adjustable uppers from che in this weekend. This solved my pinion angle problem I created when I put Granatelli uppers and lowers in last November. This settled my problem with the rear of my 86. I lowered it to where I want it as far as height goes.

The front is another problem. Again I LUV the spring rate (unknown) but I now need to lower the Front. If "we" know the spring rate and loading for the Motorsport "D" lowering springs for the Front and rear of our T-birds, shouldn't we be able to order the duplicate from Coilspring.Com????!??

i think chuck w has the specs on the front d springs.. but c springs on the front work real well and have a higher rate for less dive and roll. Here are the specs on the front moog cargo coils.

Part number 8606
Inside dia. 3.500
Bar dia. .656
Install Height 11
Load rating 1900
Spring rate 462.0

How about the spec's for the Front "C" springs then.
Then on to the next dilemma, the Front suspension. Learned if we lower the car we should use fox front struts, if it stays stock height use SN95 struts.

Gotta love this site. I can't log on without learning something about a car I've owned for 18 years.

Thanks again for the info. I'm still leaning toward the "D" springs in the front. They seem to be about the same as the cargo coils I have now, except shorter. The "C" springs seem to be a bit stiff for the ride I'm looking for.

The height of the Motorsport "D" will drop the front about 1" from stock??????

Thanks again, again!!!!!
