I installed a set of M5300-D springs. I like the looks and the ride.
Before, almost empty gas tank;

After, full tank, sorry about the image, it was late in a very overcast day;

Yep. Definitely a nicer look! It should handle much better too. It looks as though you have taken very good care of your TC. Nice ride!

I sort of like the rotary phone wheels too, just wished they were 16" or 17". With 4 lug axles, the only alternatives I've found I like are the Cobra style. Someday maybe a 5 lug swap, then there's some real interesting options. But wheels and tires are a long way off, the tires on the car are practically new Michelins.
Personally, I like the new look and handling. I don't think the original was bad looking or handling, just like the new better.
Bud30Pk, I'm usually the black sheep.

Ford Motorsport. I don't think they are still available, I latched on to a used set in good shape.
The following is information I have collected on springs for the '86 TC. I have no way to absolutely confirm this information, although some of it has appeared in more than one post/web site. So far what I've found is consistent with this information. However, I don't claim this to be the final word, so don't flame me!
---------------
Stock Turbo Coupe with
front code 1 is tag TAA that is a 425lb/in with 1750 load rate, code 2 is tag KAC that is 425lb/in with load rate of 1836.
The rear code J with tag JAD that is 200lb/in with 963 load rate, code 3 is tag LUK that is 200lb/in with 912 load rate.
Those were the most popular springs used from 83-86.
-----------
Spring set M5300D (for the Thunderbirds) used
the front springs from the M5300B-kit (tag MOG that is 435-530lb/in with load rating 1635) with
tag MIN in the rear with 200-300lb/in and load rate of 732.
The rear springs are production 85-86 Mustang GT Convertible units.
M-5300-D : Tbird
Spring rate Front - 425 lb/in at normal ride height, 530 lb/in at full jounce
Spring Rate Rear - 200 lb/in at normal ride height, 250 lb/in at full jounce
Actual Coil Tags:
Front:
74.5/7275 (Newtons/mm, Newtons; 425 lb/inch, 1635 lbs)
MOG
E5SC-5310-LA
Rear:
35.0/3255 (Newtons/mm, Newtons; 200 lb/inch, 730 lbs)
MIN
E5SC-5560-NA
[It appears that Ford tags specify Newtons/mm and Newtons for the spring rate and load rating. Newtons/mm * 5.71 = lbs/inch; Newtons * 0.2448 = lbs]
------------
Some of the above info indicates that the fronts are progressive rate, but the coils in my possesion have no indication of a progressive winding. However, the rears do appear to be progressive.
