I just replaced the oil sending unit about 4 months ago and that seemed to fix it.Now I'm getting a low reading on the gauge again. Its still in the normal range but hanging around the bottom. What else ?Oil pump?Damn this car is cursed.I just had the oil feed lines to turbo replaced by shop.I didn't have the time to do it.Also oil filter and they also decided to put in a new sending unit.Funny thing is I'm getting more boost now for some reason.Another ?.When turbo spools it doesn't sound like a jet but more like a locoust sound.Guess I'll have to check turbo fins for wear.

Put an oil pressure gauge on it and get some real numbers. It could be the sending unit went bad but until you put a gauge on it, it just guessing.

How much more boost are you getting?

Letting the cat out of the bag is a whole lot easier than putting it back in.

Try removing / reinstalling the electrical plug on the sensor a few times. If there is high resistance due to poor contact / corosion, readings will be low. Did you install the new sender with teflon tape or similar? If so, check resistance between sensor body and engine ground to be sure it is zero ohms. The sensor is grounded thru the threads, and teflon tape, etc, can screw up the connection.

I have an interesting problem, my OP guage reads almost topped out above 2500 rpm. I just drove from central Missouri to NY and this started doing this as I got here. I can also detect some valve noise. I am going to get a guage and another filter and hope that is my problem. until this it always read either in the R or M of the guage. The rest of the guages read right at that time. Also a couple times during the trip the rest of the guages would top out and then go back to correct places, took about 30 seconds to come up and fall. maybe once every 15 minute to half an hour, but I know my alternator has issues, I have another one, just got back here to install it.
Currently birdless, but will get another someday!

Resurectedbird - Check out the tech section article "Gauge Flux Fix" and see if it applies to your problem.

already replaced regulator with a brand new unit, also replaced resistor wire. I checked the car out some more last night. the OP guage goes up to almost the top above 2k rpm and there is a little bit of valve noise, but nothing that bad for the age of the engine. car has 207 k mile and engine probably has 100k+ miles on it so lifter noise is usual. still going to change oil and filter and install guage. could not get oil cap off due to broken cover. replacing that too
Currently birdless, but will get another someday!

I have an auto and I getting 4-5 max on the stock gauge figuring they arent always true from the post I've seen on here. Now It getting up to 8-9.Weird.Come to think of it there is a gasket on the intake if you remove it?I f I remember that was replaced and I guess there was a leak there somewhere. Not very familiar with all this stuff but slowly getting there.Mine is a daily driver so I'm scared to mess with stuff I know nothing about in fear it might not go back together and I'll be missing work time.Do they sell a thing called Instant Mechanic in a can? ?????????????????????? Pete is talking about putting an OIL PRESSURE gauge in it to see what the actual pressure is. I assume you are talking about BOOST PRESURE?? Boost press isnt the same as oil pressure!
