Lost Boost Today : (

So I lost boost at some point while nonboosting quietly along the highway this morning. I noticed when I exited off the ramp and quickly found that I lost almost all power when trying to boost so I would have to back off the accelerator and only use my mighty 2.3 HP with maybe 5 psi of boost. After 5 psi it bucks and almost feels as if its loosing power. I have been driving her on and off all last year with excellent maxed out boost performance with only a slight amount of bucking on the really aggressive boost with upper rpm (like when I open her up to full potential when entering the highway ramp)... I assume that is from my stock fuel pump? Anyways, I looked under the hood after reaching my destination and didn't see any undone vacuum hoses or anything out of the norm. Any suggestions to focus my troubleshooting on when I get home today will be greatly appreciated!!!

thanks
Ron

Carefully check the IC hoses, assuming you have the stock IC. Pull the IC and inspect them for splits, cracks, etc. It is nearly impossible to see or feel for cracks in the turbo to IC hose. I normal small diameter vac hose loose or even disconnected will not lead to no or very low boost.

so I never made it home from work yesterday.... She began to lose power even without using boost. The more I tried to give her gas the more she would bog down until she finally gave out in the middle of a huge intersection. Well at least I think I know what the problem is.. fuel pump. And it was next on my list for upgrades so I guess it was not all too bad. I will have to do a few quick tests to confirm the problem but I am pretty sure that's what it is.

Good ole Walbro 255 time!
Autozone and Oreilleys both can rent you a pressure gauge if you need to test at the rail.

So befoe i empty my full tank of gass and attack my old pump, i went ahead and pulled the fuel line off the filter to check flo. Turn key to run and hear the pump run, gas flows for about 5 secs then flow stops after a click sound from under the hood is heard. Repeat test over and over a few times with the same result each time. I can get her to start but only for a few seconds before stumbling out. Any attempt to give her guess once started will instantly kill her. Still sound like a pump issue? Shouldn't the fuel coninue to flow under pressure is met instead of the 5 sec flow??

Run the fuel system diagnostics. The fuel pump mat run with insufficient pressure to keep the engine running. The diagnostics can narrow it down for you.

When key is turned to RUN but engine not started pump runs for 2 sec and then shuts off. Pump will run continuously during cranking and when engine is running.

Before dropping the tank, check fuel pressure with a gauge.

Ok will do.

I will pick up a fuel pressure gauge today and check. I assume that if it holds pressure when stalling out then its not the pump.... but I want that Walbro 255 in there regardless after all tests are completed. It was the next step on "Upgrades to do" list : )
