I replaced the cap, only to have the bolts snap off the old one during removal. I pulled the distributor and drilled/tapped the holes and only one works while the other wont' snug down. I drove 1 mile today in damp misty weather and "pop pop" misfire...dead!
What is an easy way to get that bolt to snug down? I don't think heli-coils come that small. Is there a liquid metal that can fill the hole and then retap?
Any suggestions would be grateful

I'm not sure about the suitability of any of the liquid metal, I just don't know. For plan B, any 2,3 distributor from that era will work. It does not need to be off a turbo 2.3

your suggesting I replace the housing?
What did you mean by 2,3 distributor? Is that how they are called? Are you saying v6 & v8 housings works also?

you need a distributor from a 2.3L engine or fix yours

I had this problem before and though I'm sure anything is possible, I ended up replacing the housing itself with a new part from Ford with the included electronics and being done with it.

I used one with a broken ear as a core on a rebuilt dist.

I should clarify I used a new Ford part that I had, but would not hesitate to use a quality rebuilt one, such from NAPA.
My real point, was my opinion would be that I'd probably just replace the unit rather than try to "engineer" something.

I agree JT. I didn't want to find that something failed on the freeway. By the was, I have used a little anti seize on my dist cap screws for a long time - since I broke an ear off.

But Pinto's never used a TFI type distributor.... Get one from a '87-'90 4cyl Stang...
