Looking possibly getting a Sport Trac this year and most of them have a 4.0 or sometimes you can find them with a 4.6 V8. I'll most likely end up with a 4.0 unless I found a 4.6 for a steal. I have a bunch of buddies with 4.0 rangers and none of them have any major problems at all. The only thing is one of em has a slight timing chain rattle. The more I read about it the more apprehensive I am getting. Its involving the timing chain guides and this motor has a front and rear timing chain. I was wondering if got a newer year one 2005 or 2006 could it still end up with that rattle?
Im going to look into a 4 door truck for the extra space..hopefully be able to get something middle of this year. I figured the Sport Trac might work. Haven't given much else thought asides from a 4 Door Tacoma which is tough to find but not impossible. I have a Camry with 240k on it so I do believe they can make some pretty durable stuff.
Little stuff like alternators and whatnot I can deal with I just would hate to deal with something catastrophic.
