I see it takes a size 1 socket.I have the short and long socket but neither will fit over the top to the nut the way the plastic casing is made around the ECT.Is it ok to grind down the plastic?I just don't want to shave off the the parts that go to the electrical connecter to the harness.Special tool?

If you are SURE the ECT is bad. Then disconnect the electrical connector and remove the connector part of the ECT itself. you can grind it off, knock it off with hammer, cut it off with a dremel. Then you can use a socket to get it out. Use on open end to seat the new one. Put teflon goop or tape on the threads of the new one.

Interesting.
I have never had a problem getting a socket onto the ECT to get it loose..

Well I has to lightly shave off a little plastic on the ect sensor(around the fins for the connecters and the thick triangle part..Maybe it was the Snap-On deep socket I was using. After the shaving had no problem.
