guys, i searched this subject and it sounds
like both are a little different but have their own pro`s and cons. any input? which is the best processor for launching off the line without gillis valve? which is the best after hitting 3rd gear without boostvalve. i was thinking of taking out la3 and trying la2. thanks

Not trying to be a hard nose, but there is a veritable wealth of info in past posts on this subject. Just use the search feature.

However, AFAIK, everyone seems to covet the LA3 above the other computers.

not that i found, nothing definite or proven. i saw where people prefer the la3 due to upgrade ability, but no definite specs on where it is better than the la2 in performance. rumors that la3 has more aggessive timing inputs and that it boosts a few more psi in 3,4 & 5 gears but also that la2 boosts more in 1st and 2nd gear.
also that with gillis boost valve, there is no difference. so what gives? anyone with true specs from ford? thanks

If you got an EEC tuner you could explore the tables of both.

* okay guys, surprising news, the la2 works great, not quite as much boost on the gauge in 3rd,4th & 5th but up high in 1st and 2nd,
also transfer of power to trans/rear wheels seems smoother yet strong without buck or snatch as with la3. ** with gillis boost valve set to 18 psi car runs better across complete rpm range. no dead spots or lagging. no bucking and snatch feel as with la3in transfer of power to rear. could be combination of minor mods: open air box with k & n, no cat & flowmaster single 2.5 exhaust, 86 svo coil and of course gillis boost valve set at 18 psi and change from la3 to la2 processor. timing curve and fuel settings must be different to make this so called step down work better.
