I was browsing 40bob's site and looking at his faq section and it says the 87 TC 5spds had either LA's, or LA2's, and the 88 TC 5spds had the LA3?? I thought both 87 AND 88 had the LA3?

From what I have read and seen in person. Late 88 5speed TC have the LA3. Not sure on the exact product date. I would think March of 88 or later. But that is my opinion.

The LA3 has 15psi in all gears. The LA and LA2 have the 15psi in 1 and 2. 3-5 have 10psi until 4500rpms. Not a big deal with a manual boost controller. Unless you where looking to use Quarterhorse, eectuner or tweecer rt. Which all seemed to be setup for the LA3. I would just use any of the LA series for a computer swap in the older TC's.

We have had a couple of original 87 owners who state their cars had original LA3s in them.

I have one reputable source that implies that (only) later 88s came with LA3s

Here is a site that has some 2.3 Turbo computers that I had not heard of until recently.

I realize this doesn't clarify anything.

We've parted over a dozen 87/88 TCs over the years. The T5 87's have all had LA2s and the T5 88's have all had LA3s. I realize that's only a few out of thousands built, but that's what we've seen. I don't remember exactly what the A4LD cars had. I think they were all LB2s.

The 87, 87.5 autos got an LB2, the 88 autos got the 8UA, according to one source.

The '88 automatics I've owned all had 8UA, they did all have the dual solenoid A4LD, which would be different than the single solenoid versions...

You guys bring up a good point about the auto EECs. I was going to say we've never seen an 8UA in an 87/88 TC, but I think every 88 we've parted has been a manual. So, that makes sense we'd only have LB2s. Thanks for the info!
