I am thinking about doing away with the PRC and going with KYB's all around. Anyone that is running them care to make a comment, pro or con? What model #'s will fit the 87-88 TC w/o modification? Thanks, Michael

Check out this thread: http://natomessageboard.com/Forum1/HTML/010008.html

I'm running the KYB AGX adjustables for an SN95 Mustang on the front of my '87 and T-Bird specific Gas-A-Justs on the rear.

Cons: No adjustables for the rear available from KYB. The clevises on the front struts (lower through bolt mount) may have to be shimmed (I mounted mine that way), although the clevis plates will probably pull in with enough torque. Mounting Mustang fronts on a T-Bird technically voids the warranty. Ride is definitely stiffer than stock in firm mode, so forget the floaty boat ride you get with the PRC in auto. You will feel the road (which is what I wanted).

Pros: The front struts are easily adjusted from the top with a small screwdriver (which is included with the struts). The car handles like it's on rails, body roll is gone and the ride is quite nice on the highway. Pricing is very resonable for this level of performance.

Did you go with the KYB Gas adjust KG5556 for the rear shocks and KYB KG4521 to replace the rear quad shocks? Will any of the KYB stuff fit the front without having to shim them? Thanks

After having the KYB's bag in the lass's car, with only about 5,000 km on them, I've lost all faith in the company and do not recomend them.

Hey, you asked.

I have had KYBs (GR2 struts, gas adjust shocks) on my 86 Tbird 5.0 for about 50 K miles. Zero problems with them. Ride is about the same as a good set of PRC shocks / struts from 87-88 TC set in FIRM mode.

Yeah, those are the same ones we used. GR-2 gas adjust. Perhaps I just got some lemons, but now I'm weary enough to go with Koni when the time comes to toss the PRC.

I really didn't have to shim them much, about .030". Like I said, I probably could have torqued the clevis plates enough to pull them in, but I'm kind of finicky and wanted full contact. A couple of pieces of SS shim stock is all you would need (carbon steel if you don't care about rust). You would be able to use the GR-2's for a T-Bird up front without shims (like JeffK is running). I wanted the adjustable feature to tune for hard cornering and didn't know if the GR-2's would be stiff enough. That's why I went with the 'Stang AGX struts.

I did use the KG5556 rears, but haven't replaced the quads yet (didn't need to since it has been an automatic most of its life).

Jeff, was it the GR-2 #235008 that you used in the fronts and will they work in a 87-88 TC?

I dont remember.... it was several years back that I put the KYBs on the 86. I think I got them as a set from PST for something like $169 or so.
