Keeping Intercooler On

its always the little things! i really cant enjoy this new turbo since every time i make over 15psi the intercooler pops off the coupling, ive tightend the clamps to the point they almost broke and it keeps happening, im at my end whits, is there some kind of adhesive or somethin that can be used, maybe i should just buy T bolt clamps but i dont think u can get em that small.

A silicon hump hose like this:

is what i used to keep mine from doing that never had a problem with it coming off again. You may get away with just the t-bolt clamp, I just went ahead and got the hump hose cause my original hose was worn out anyway.

Mine was the top hose, but it sounds like you may be talking about the bottom in which case if you can find a t-bolt clamp that size it should do the trick.

ok since i can't edit my post, i wanted to add that hightempsilicone.com has the t-bolt clamps from 1" to 5" so you should be able to get what you need.

I've got clamps from 1" to 12" and custom silicone IC hose sets.

Use the bracket that bolts the IC to the stud at the front of the exhaust manifold, and the IC will stay put, and hoses wont blow off.

Not in my case either

My upper hose has blown off with my bracket on good and tight

replacing the clamps every so often is also a good thing to do, mine were the original clamps from the factory, swapped some new ones, and havnt had much problem since

also, this is a VERY goofy idea, but has worked with other things

when i used to ride BMX all the time, i would have problems with getting "throttle grip", basically where the grip will just slide around like a motorcycle throttle, and what we would do is spray hairspray on the handlebars, wipe with a rag and force the grips on really tight, it almost glued the grips to the bars, but didnt make it impossible to get them off

maybe something similar would work

the hair spray and new clamp idea ill try first, seeing those are the cheapest lol. i cleaned up the couplings and the IC inlet/outlet with some MEK, so there is no grease, dirt, oil etc on any of the surfaces, seems to hold better but the botom one is still slipping. grr

Clean the oil film off the inside of the IC hoses may help. Roughing up the metal are with real course sandpaper may help also. Don't get any abrasive particle in anything

tighten the bottom two clamps before you tighten the upper ones(allows for more movement). when you think the bottom two are as tight as they can get, go one more full revolution on both.(have a few extras lying around....ive broken half a dozen per year since i got my car)

If you're gonna spring for new clamps spend the extra $ and get the t-bolt style. I think you'll be glad you did.
