Well guys I couldnt pass up a deal for a automatic 1986 TC. It was $500 bucks and came with lots off extras.

I would like to know from ACTUAL auto guys who use theirs as a good gas mileage daily driver, what you suggest for better performance and reliabilty.

My current list
Drop in K&N
ranger cam
new motorcraft tune up
front mount or top mount intercooler
walbro 190lph pump
remote mount TFI
Volvo fan and chinese push fan with separate thermo relays
Ported E6(has crappy E3)

What would you guys who own auto's say is a good FYI?
I'm keeping is auto and wont be pushing it over 15psi EVER
She will be a long distance everyday driver
Is the stock C3 trans something that can be upgraded or does it even matter?

I dont want to hear from the peanut gallery that I should swap to a 5spd and how easy it is to do it. ITS A DD car ONLY. It will not be a performance high powered car, rather a smooth driving reliable 175horsepower(MAX) "old man" cruiser car.

OK swap a A4LD in it and gain 3-4 MPG... Not exactly a direct swap and probably not worth it...

My guess is after you buzz around awhile without O/D, you'll start thinking about that taboo 5-Speed swap...

If you want fuel economy you need to do the 5 speed swap. With out overdrive I got 20mpg with mine. I had some mods. It went 14.0@ 96 like that. I would think you to be a crazy person to wire up all the the stuff you would need to make the electronic A4LD work..

There are no after market parts for the C3...well there wasnt 10 years ago when I had mine. I went from C3 to T5 to C4. My car was more for fun then fuel economy. Now my DD 88TC gets almost 30mpg.

Supposly the older turbo cars can do even better...with a 5 speed.

Ok, a buddy has a rebuilt C3, so I guess Ill just buy his tranny just as a safety.

I'll just turn the boost down to 10psi, and keep my foot out of it. I really just want a cruiser. I hate driving 5 spd long distance, and really hate it when I visit places with lots of hills(san franciso and big bear). My Benz has spoiled me. I have 3 5spd TC's(mine, my daighters, my bros) I toy with and this auto will just be my wimpy stock car.

peanut gallery, just kidding.. sort of.

I always thought it would be cool to make a electro-hydraulic/pneumatic clutch and shifter mechanism. That would be a nice auto with a T5 lol if it would work, I like a 5 speed to much to mess with it but thought it would be cool once you got the timing right with adjustable relief valves etc.

You know Mr Dog...I always wanted to try the 98-01 2.5 ranger auto. Alot better than A4LD..YOu would probably need an aftermarket tranny controller, not sure on the drive shaft or shifter.

Could be an interesting swap...makes me want to find a TC with a wasted auto(pretty reasonable to find) and go to town.
