Noticed a couple days ago my car(88 turbo) started missing a little when i got up into some boost, went to run up to get family some food fordinner and got up to second gear at about 12lbs and she popped and died, coasted into a driveway and wouldnt start back up. Called my brother in law and he towed me the whole half mile mile back to my house. That evening i took off the distributor cap and grabbed the rotor and it was broke right where the tab that protrudes down was.
Next day I went and got a new cap, rotor, plugs and wires cus i was gonna change them any way. Put the new rotor and cap on just currious to see if she would start......no start and the rotor is not turning, checked the belt, and TDC on both gears, all is in time, tried to see if I could turn the rotor by hand thinking it was the dizzy gear
but i cant turn it, but it will move about a 1/4"......think its the aux shaft and dizzy gear?? any suggestions to try??

Thanks in advance, Joe

Dizzy gear went if the rotor isn't turning.

I hope, for your sake, that the pin just sheared or something, but it sure sounds like the gear went.

Yes you definitely would have to change the Aux shaft. Either with a NOS one and a brand new distributor gear like I did, or a used, matched set aux shaft & dizzy gear. Of course - in your case you would be able to skip many of the steps I took because I was also installing a new crank seal because mine had been leaking. But the pan MUST be cleaned of as much debris as possible!

Thanks Brian, be nice if it was just a pin. Supposed to be rainy here for a few days so wont be able to work on it outside. If it was a gear i wonder why i cant turn mine by hand like you could? But im thinkin it is the gear...... Any clues where all i can look for a new shaft, other than Esslinger?

I got my NOS aux. shaft from a TurboFord member. I'd put something in the wanted section here, and there if you're a member. There was someone else over there who said he has a few of them.
