Well if the broke shock isnt bad enough, this car acts like its going to die all the time now, for a while it idles ok, usually after it warms up for a while, but i keeps bouncing in idle, now ive replaced tps, egr, and o2 sensor. Only started doing this after i had to crank the engine for a while to get it to start when it below 0 the other day. Wife and I have also smelled the cat a few times, wondering if that might be adding to the detenation and poor gas milage as well.

keep your head up.... pick up some shocks at autozone, pick up a motorcraft pcv valve, replace any worn hoses, replace engine control temperataure sensor, and alot will come back into play for you.... i feel your pain, but with time and money, these cars will live for a long ass time!!!
P.s. sometimes its overlooking the little things that causes it to still run bad!

That sounds like bad gas to me. Try a little Heet to get the water out and top it off with some new premium.

Why did you replace EGR, TPS, 02 sensor? How did you know they were bad? Did you run the complete EEC diagnostic test (KOEO, KOER, CM)? If so, did you get any codes?

The coolant temp sensor was replaced about a month ago, took it to shop a while back said code came back to replace. Friend and I did that the same time we removed that A/C system entirely and replaced the heater core. After that the car ran wonderfully, oh and the thermostat had to be replaced was stuck closed. Ive replaced the fuel filter 3 times (owned car for about 3 years now), forced air, cleaned throttle body 3 times, did full tune up replaced all parts but wires (mechanic i took it to said he made up the wires from scratch, he owns 2 2.3 vehicles and worked for ford for 22 years). replaced o2 sensor cause it was passed 100k in miles and was clipped and pinched (frayed wires). egr was replaced by accident, that was when i first bought the car, replaced all airline hoses and pvc valve twice, red top exide battery, 130 amp alt, new resenators. Thats it i think.

The EEC inceases the idle when it senses the AC has been turned on, and then applies voltage to the AC clutch to energize the compressor. The actual running of the compressor has nothing to do with the idle.

Is this the same mechanic that home made your wires and worked for ford for 22 years??

No different guy, the guy that i know at ford was just trying to make some extra cash off me by doing a tune up for me when i first got the car. When he did the job he told me they were wires he had from his merkur and svo that were different lengths, same voltage. No biggie Ive learned quite a bit since then. Im buying some good magnecor wires here soon.
